A new job led Maurya to learn to code, which led to founding ScriptEd. She wanted to build a pathway to the tech economy for students who might not otherwise have the opportunity. Prior to ScriptEd, Maurya was a middle school teacher in Philadelphia, and coordinated volunteer-based after- and out-of-school programs for NYC high schoolers. Maurya was named as one of seven millennials “too busy changing the world to take selfies.” She spends her free time training for and competing in triathlons.
Rebecca taught special education in San Francisco for three years before joining the ScriptEd team in 2013. She helped to grow the organization in New York City and has recently returned home to the Bay Area to pilot ScriptEd's program out west.
Throughout her career, Rebecca has been privileged to witness the incredible things youth can accomplish when given the right tools and opportunity. In addition to working at ScriptEd, Rebecca enjoys reading piles of books, running long distances, and making terrible (really good) jokes.
Before coming to ScriptEd, Allen sandwiched a career in finance around community service and teaching. He held numerous high-level operating positions at hedge funds and international banks, before teaching middle school in Newark as well as finance courses at New Jersey City University and Kean University. Allen has been a long-time supporter of STEM education for disadvantaged youth and wanted to combine that commitment with his broad professional experience at ScriptEd. Allen was a sprinter in college and is a big college sports fan.
Before coming to ScriptEd, Shane taught middle school science in San Antonio, TX through Teach for America and was a campus leader for Citizen Schools in East Harlem. He is deeply passionate about equipping ScriptEd students with the skills and experiences needed to become our future innovators and leaders. Shane enjoys biking around the city and hanging out with his cats, Harriet and Marvin.
Cami is a non-profit management and fundraising professional who believes in the power of education—and young people—to create a more just, empathetic world. She has raised over $12M for education programs in NYC & LA and at ScriptEd, is committed to building a community of support pledged to closing the opportunity gap for youth of color and girls. Prior to fundraising, Cami was the assistant director of a prominent art gallery and a neuroscientist. She enjoys writing, dismantling the patriarchy and volunteering with animal rescues.
Kate is a former ESL teacher and teacher trainer, and has taught in Spain, Argentina, and her home state of Connecticut. She enjoys working at the intersection of business and social good, and joined ScriptEd to help harness the power of the tech industry to empower youth. She is a textile enthusiast, and previously ran a small fair trade clothing line.
Joliz is a youth development specialist who has trained students and educators in Croatia, South Africa, and all five boroughs in New York City. With a passion for tech education and social justice, she joined ScriptEd to provide students with the tools and access to disrupt the tech industry. Originally from the Bronx, she can be found testing recipes and enjoying her reign as pop culture trivia queen in her Brooklyn apartment.
Chinnell started out as a Spanish high school teacher in Arkansas before transitioning into a program coordinator for ESL classes in NYC. She is dedicated to equal opportunities in education, which is what lead her to ScriptEd. Chinnell enjoys gardening, rock climbing, yoga, and being in nature.
Erica began her career as an elementary educator in Houston, TX through Teach for America. She has been a classroom teacher and informal educator, and led a girls-only STEM program. Erica was inspired by ScriptEd’s commitment to actually getting students into careers as developers, not just exposing students to coding. She enjoys eating her way through the city, catching a band, or a good Sunday grill with friends.
After college, Michael returned to his native city of Newark, NJ to teach English through the Teach for America program. Following TFA, Michael began working in the tech industry, but soon realized he missed fighting for educational equity on a daily basis. ScriptEd offered him the chance to combine his love for technology and education in a way that would open doors for students who often have limited access to careers in tech. In his spare time, Michael enjoys spoken word poetry and cooking.
Alyxe served in the Peace Corps as an environmental science educator and community organizer, then taught English in Colombia. Prior to joining ScriptEd, Alyxe was a school resource manager with a non-profit in NYC that provides support to under-resourced public elementary schools. Her passion and dedication to ensuring all students have access to high quality educational opportunities led Alyxe to ScriptEd. In her spare time, Alyxe enjoys running 5Ks, reading, and hanging out with friends and family, including Sylvie Loisaida, her diva cat.
Eliza worked in the Washington DC public education scene as XX, before moving to NYC to join ScriptEd. She has master's degrees in Elementary and Special Education and is dedicated to providing equitable access to resources for all students, which is how she found ScriptED. She enjoys riding her bike, cooking, a good book and the search for the best salt and vinegar chips on the planet.
Courtney taught elementary school in both the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. Prior to joining ScriptEd, she worked as an instructional coach supporting NYC charter school teachers with curriculum planning, lesson execution and classroom management. Courtney is passionate about providing all students with top quality educational experiences. She is inspired by ScriptEd's mission to equip students with coding skills and professional opportunities in order to open the door to successful technology careers. Courtney is a farmer's market enthusiast who enjoys cooking, spending time in the sun, and exploring the city.
After law school, Lia taught English and writing to middle school and high school students, and most recently helped Kaplan to develop curriculum for law students. Her desire to remedy the inequalities in our education system led her to ScriptEd. Lia’s favorite activities are challenging others in competitive board games, solving puzzles, and playing with her dog, Max.
As a former ScriptEd student, Rebecca interned at ThoughtWorks as a web developer and is currently attending Hunter College to earn her bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. She joined ScriptEd because she wanted to work in an organization helping others learn how to code. Outside of school and work, Rebecca enjoys visiting new places and reading utopian and dystopian literature.
A New York City native, Emily taught elementary school in New Orleans for three years before joining the ScriptEd team. Emily is passionate about teaching students to be self-motivated learners and preparing them to tackle life beyond school successfully, which is what brought her to ScriptEd. She is very excited to be working to pilot ScriptEd's program in the Bay Area. Emily is a certified yoga instructor and enjoys exchanging book recommendations and searching for the most delicious new ice cream flavors.
