Alyxe served in the Peace Corps as an environmental science educator and community organizer, then taught English in Colombia. Prior to joining ScriptEd, Alyxe was a school resource manager with a non-profit in NYC that provides support to under-resourced public elementary schools. Her passion and dedication to ensuring all students have access to high quality educational opportunities led Alyxe to ScriptEd. In her spare time, Alyxe enjoys running 5Ks, reading, and hanging out with friends and family, including Sylvie Loisaida, her diva cat.
Chinnell started out as a Spanish high school teacher in Arkansas before transitioning into a program coordinator for ESL classes in NYC. She is dedicated to equal opportunities in education, which is what lead her to ScriptEd. Chinnell enjoys gardening, rock climbing, yoga, and being in nature.
Courtney began her career teaching elementary school in the San Francisco Bay Area and then New York City. Prior to joining ScriptEd, she worked as an instructional coach supporting NYC charter school teachers with curriculum planning, lesson execution and classroom management. Courtney is passionate about providing all students with top quality educational experiences. She is inspired by ScriptEd's mission to equip students with coding skills and professional opportunities in order to open the door to successful technology careers. Courtney is a farmer's market enthusiast who enjoys cooking, spending time in the sun, and exploring the city.
Eliza worked in the Washington DC public education scene as an early childhood educator before moving to NYC. She has Master's degrees in Elementary and Special Education and is dedicated to providing equitable access to resources for all students, which is how she found ScriptED! She enjoys riding her bike, cooking, a good book and the search for the best salt and vinegar chips on the planet.
Ellen taught high school biology for three years in New Orleans before joining the team at ScriptEd. She is a teacher at heart, loves thinking about all things school, and is excited to be doing work that directly empowers students in her hometown. She is a San Francisco native (go Washington Eagles!) and has strong opinions about local burritos, bus routes, and gentrification. Outside of school, Ellen loves road trips and eating raisins by the fistful.
A New York City native, Emily taught elementary school in New Orleans for three years before joining the ScriptEd team. Emily is passionate about teaching students to be self-motivated learners and preparing them to tackle life beyond school successfully, which is what brought her to ScriptEd. She is very excited to be building out ScriptEd's program in the Bay Area. Emily is a certified yoga instructor and enjoys exchanging book recommendations and searching for the most delicious new ice cream flavors.
Erica began her career as an elementary educator in Houston, TX through Teach For America. At ScriptEd, Erica has been inspired by student creativity, her volunteers' commitment to our mission, and the authentic connections to the industry that our young people develop. After two years as a Program Manager, she transitioned to the development team where she continues to share stories of ScriptEd's impact. Erica is an avid yogi and has never met a dog she doesn't want to pet.
Ilena started her career in marketing at creative agencies in New York City and London, but a passion for education led her to nonprofit work. Previously, she ran PR and communications for an educational game studio, a teacher professional development program, and a public school in NYC. She believes that young people, technology, and great stories each have the power to change the world, and she is happy to be part of a community that combines all three into an unstoppable force for social good.
A Bay Area native, Jewels started her career as a community college professor at Laney College and San Francisco City College. She's excited about fusing her passion for critical pedagogy and social justice with new teachers from the tech industry at ScriptEd. The most fulfilling part of this position for her is knowing that student's will have the tools to access careers in tech. In her former life, she was a drapetomaniac.
Joliz is a youth development specialist who has trained students and educators in Croatia, South Africa, and all five boroughs in New York City. With a passion for tech education and social justice, she joined ScriptEd to provide students with the tools and access to disrupt the tech industry. Originally from the Bronx, she can be found testing recipes and enjoying her reign as pop culture trivia queen in her Brooklyn apartment.
Kate is a former ESL teacher and teacher trainer, and has taught in Spain, Argentina, and her home state of Connecticut. She enjoys working at the intersection of business and social good, and joined ScriptEd to help harness the power of the tech industry to empower youth. She is a textile enthusiast, and previously ran a small fair trade clothing line.
After law school, Lia taught English and writing to middle school and high school students, and most recently helped Kaplan to develop curriculum for law students. Her desire to remedy the inequalities in our education system led her to ScriptEd. Lia’s favorite activities are challenging others in competitive board games, solving puzzles, and playing with her dog, Max.
After college, Liu served at the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs through City Service Corps, where she helped develop the Language Services Team and orchestrated translation and interpretation services for more than 200 mayoral events. Because she’s passionate about STEM education and women in tech, Liu joined ScriptEd to further the mission of creating access to careers in technology. In her spare time, Liu likes to play board games, hang out with friends, and bike around the city.
A new job led Maurya to learn to code, which led to founding ScriptEd. She wanted to build a pathway to the tech economy for students who might not otherwise have the opportunity. Prior to ScriptEd, Maurya was a middle school teacher in Philadelphia, and coordinated volunteer-based after- and out-of-school programs for NYC high schoolers. Maurya was named as one of seven millennials “too busy changing the world to take selfies.” She spends her free time training for and competing in triathlons.
After college, Michael returned to his native city of Newark, NJ to teach English through the Teach for America program. Following TFA, Michael began working in the tech industry, but soon realized he missed fighting for educational equity on a daily basis. ScriptEd offered him the chance to combine his love for technology and education in a way that would open doors for students who often have limited access to careers in tech. In his spare time, Michael enjoys spoken word poetry and cooking.
Before coming to ScriptEd, Moe worked as a Student Ambassador for NYIT Career Services, where he helped students utilize school services. Initially he joined ScriptEd to be involved in tech, now “[he] feel[s] that [he’s] an important link in a very strong chain.” Outside of Work Moe is currently in pursuit of his bachelor’s in Computer Science. In his spare time, you can find him working on a side project, gaming on his PlayStation, or traveling the world.
Peter taught Chinese Language in St. Louis through Teach For America. After moving back to New York, Peter began his journey learning and teaching coding and computer science. He is passionate about providing youth with tools and experiences to empower them to develop the technology of the future. Outside of ScriptEd you can find Peter on the soccer pitch or submitting pull requests on GitHub.
Phil is an educator, youth mentor, and relentless advocate for social justice, who previously worked in New York City schools as a 9th-12th grade social studies teacher. Phil is passionate about helping inner city youth get jobs and avoid potential interactions with the criminal justice system. He’s a former member of the executive board of the New York Urban League for Young Professionals, where he currently serves as an advisor and assists with various community service projects. At ScriptEd, Phil blends his passion for social justice and youth development with his interest in building computers and web development.
Rebecca taught special education in San Francisco for three years before joining the ScriptEd team in 2013. She helped to grow the organization in New York City and is honored to have returned home to the Bay Area to lead the organization's efforts out west. Throughout her career, Rebecca has been privileged to witness the incredible things youth can accomplish when given the right tools and opportunity. In addition to working at ScriptEd, Rebecca enjoys reading piles of books, running long distances, and making terrible (really good) jokes.
Rebecca is currently attending Hunter College, majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. She joined ScriptEd in its early days as a student in the program. As a member of the finance and operations team, she has supported the organization's growth and believes ScriptEd has been influential in diversifying computer science and teaching others to code. Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys exploring the city with friends, blogging, and attending a variety of meetups.
Before coming to ScriptEd, Shane taught middle school science in San Antonio, TX through Teach for America and was a campus leader for Citizen Schools in East Harlem. He is deeply passionate about equipping ScriptEd students with the skills and experiences needed to become our future innovators and leaders. Shane enjoys biking around the city and hanging out with his cats, Harriet and Marvin.
